He allegedly sent me the attached letter on 

February 22, 1996, for a notice of non-reelection

 (non-reemployment)  so that I could attend the session on February 28 1996. However, I never received this letter.  And therefore was unable to have my contentions heard  by the Governing Board of the CVUSD which possibly could have changed their minds. THey probably assumed my absence indicated apathy. 

THis is a copy of the letter the district claims to have sent me (which they provided later as I was contending the matter in a judicial setting).  I contend this was actually fabricated later to try to defend themselves in court; but they made a critical error in their fabrication: Notice the header date actually says "February 22, 1999 " . 

Later, Colleen Gaines became superintendent. Then Foch Pensis. Under Foch Pensis the district continued to decline drastically in test scores and faced trustee "takeover" by the state and/or sanctions. There were some good teachers at the high school and district, including myself,  but the administrators tended to be less so. Since this is an obituary, I will not say anything more negative.

re East Grand Rapids Middle School

I remember a guy named Steve Brinks from Calvin College in the dormitories apparently he is a teacher here now.  you normally expect people who go to Calvin to be conservative Christians b/c  Calvin is a denominational college (now a university) affiliated with the  Christian Reformed Church .  but Brinks was a different character and his wife even more radical in the liberal-left direction.  Originally from Seattle, a  farmer's daughter, once again you would expect conservative, but she became a  far left politician in Michigan. how the two of them met  I do not know but it's a liberal family cesspool.  you would never expect this coming out of Calvin College . And neither of them have that loyalty to other people that you would expect . they are there for themselves. Brinks himself originally always talked about how much he cared about poor people, but if that was so ,why did he jump over to the wealthy side of town as a teacher at the first chance he got ❓

(and his roommate in the dormitories i won't say his name, but he's a professor now at a top university in California... there's some mystery about him.. Where he came from etc...he became very adept at  "acting intelligent" re pie-in-the-sky unprovable stuff.. yes...  but total lack of values is the problem. )

And sometimes Brinks would take cheap shots at you . brinks never had a tough day in his life. Contrary to popular belief, being a missionary is NOT a rough life. and being a missionary kid is even easier. it's like being a child of a diplomat . This kid was spoiled to the core . exacerbating The problem was that he started hanging around with Rick DeVries...a whole 'nother character...& another character analysis needed. You could write a book about this group : a good title would be " the Perfect Storm". & Grand Rapids is stuck with them for at least another several decades until they retire . They're not going anywhere.

 ...I'll leave it at that for now. 

The problem with teachers like mr. Steve Brinks is because he was a missionary kid he didn't grow up here in the United States ,so he didn't even play team sports like football basketball baseball.  I think he knew a little bit about fishing.. but not about hunting though ... just mainly fishing in Argentina... he just didn't have the basic sense of American camaraderie...  problem with being a missionary kid is also his  sympathies lie with the people of other countries more than  with fellow Americans even though he has an  American passport because his parents were American missionaries.

i had a situation like this when I was a substitute but it was MISCONSTRUED...the kid asked me once if he could use the restroom..and I said "Can you wait a moment?" and he said ok...they were just about to start a presentation...so he was one of those who stood in front of the class doing a presentation..and suddenly he started peeing in his pants..I think it might have been stage fright..but normally if kids really have to go so bad they make it exceedingly clear, or in some cases just walk out. ..i could care less if a kid goes to the restroom except that sometimes the administration gets angry at the teacher or substitute if you let too many go to the restroom and then they find them running around in the hall.....this school was kind of strict that way.. so i tried to be moderate rather than liberal about restroom passes...nonetheless..i got all the blame from the principal ex post facto..that spineless coward.. was covering his bases and blaming it ALL on me.. what a jerk ! and I did not make him sit in wet pants..he went to the resource room and got some new dry pants..and everything was ok..the other kids were not mocking or laughing at him..and so we tried to resume what we were doing and suddenly the principal beckoned to me from the doorway and took me in another room and started berating me.. saying "you can't do that.." ..I said "do what? " he didn't even ask what happened .. ; so when I realized he was trying to blame me, I stood up and said, "I'm leaving" ..(anytime the administration is going to blame a teacher for anything there is supposed to  be union representative present as well..and he had not allowed this to happen)..so i left the school for the day.. by the way, I found out later that this was a special ed class (moderate special ed) ..and they hadn't informed me.. ; so I don't know all the details about this story in south L.A. but in some cases the adminstration is to blame
